Germany APS Update: New dMAT Exam Mandatory for Graduates

A comprehensive guide for Engineering, Commerce, and Business students preparing for German University admissions.

Planning to pursue your Master’s degree in Germany for upcoming intakes? The German Embassy and APS India (Akademische Prüfstelle) have announced a major update to the document verification process that directly impacts thousands of Indian applicants.

Under the new guidelines, students from Engineering, Commerce/Finance, and Business/Management undergraduate backgrounds must now clear a standardized academic aptitude test called the Digital Master Test (dMAT) as part of their APS documentation.

Important Note from EduChampion Services: The dMAT certificate does not replace your APS certificate. It is an additional, mandatory document required to complete your APS verification file.

What is the dMAT Exam?

The dMAT (Digital Master Test) is a standardized, computer-based academic aptitude exam developed by German universities in collaboration with g.a.s.t. (Society for Academic Study Preparation and Test Development).

Unlike traditional university exams, the dMAT does not test memorized factual knowledge. Instead, it evaluates analytical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and transfer skills—the core competencies required for postgraduate studies in Germany.
